It’s already a month into summer! How have you been spending it? Don’t regret a single minute of it and let it go to waste!

LIVE IT! You’ll never get it back~

This morning, I saw a tweet about Taurus’ (I’m not a ridiculous believer in horoscopes, but it’s fun from time to time!)

It said, “You cannot tell a #Taurus to stay at home” (@XSTROLOGY)

I found this amusing. It’s a bit true to me personally, especially for this summer. I refuse to stay in my house and be bored and unproductive for even a single day because it’ll drive me nuts (even when I stay home, I clean or take photos). Don’t be that person who SAYS the things you want to do … but doesn’t end up doing it.

Seeing a friend of mine, SummerGal 101, write a post about her summer motivation (http://lola455567.wordpress.com/2013/05/15/summer-of-motivation/) and making a bucketlist was simply inspiring~

“What do you want to have accomplished by the end of your summer?”

Don’t think of it as a major pressure to do “extraordinary” things, but rather, have a highlight to your day, something that you enjoyed as small as it may be~

So far, I’m enjoying my summer already!

  • Working as much as possible (while looking for another job)
  • Late night days at coffee catching up with old friends for HOURS
  • Lots and lots of photoshoots
  • Going to Centre Island
  • Summer school (Photography 1, woohoo!)
  • Actually watched a hockey game
  • Set off fireworks for Victoria Day
  • Planning movie marathons
  • Planning a road trip to Alberta to visit a friend
  • Booking off vacation time for the first time in my life!
  • Explore the city
  • Create personal projects
  • Finding new places to go to
  • A bit of clubbing and partying here and there~
  • Going to high park to see the Cherry Blossoms
  • Photographing concerts with the old volunteer team
  • Working in a darkroom again for the first time in years
  • Birthday celebrations
  • Thrifting adventures

What will you do this summer?

Make a promise to yourself and keep it~

I finally got to see the cherry blossoms at high park with my good friend Jordan (http://cestnaturel.wordpress.com/)! 🙂

Does this also count as an OOTD since I went there a few days ago? My dress is from Costa Blanca!

In honor of Gossip Girl having aired it’s season finale, why not a post with their help as my muse?

The Cast of GG on the cover of the New York Magazine, April 2008, named as “The Best Show Ever!”

Now I haven’t watched every season, but all the buzz that goes on about it is enough to learn what the deal of it is, from the drama to the fashion. I still had enough common sense to set aside some time to sit down and watch the last episode for the hell of it.

Sometime’s it takes a show of a lifetime to see changes take place in a character, in terms of their personality, fashion and relationships with friends and family.

From the snobby uniforms in their high school years to scandalous dressy ways of the Upper East side style, it’s easy to see who’s changed in what ways. It made me think about my own transitions with my group of friends and in terms of myself.

Sometime’s appearance really is more important than we think it is. Sometime’s its not. What do you think?

I could be over-analyzing and using a really weird example for something like this, however, sometime’s it’s the hype of the media that makes us just stop and have a moment of self-realization~

Ps. I always did love seeing the way people like The Queen B dressed! It wasn’t something I could have happen in real life, but damn it was always worth watching~

So, as Gossip Girl said in the episode of “Return of the Ring“, “Good morning, Upper East Siders. How do you look today? You know image is everything. But under those perfect clothes and perfect smiles, everyone has their not-so-perfect secrets.”

Today is a windy, rainy sorta bad weather day that is the one thing all commuters like myself hate! However, today I am home for the day and I was thinking of all the things I can do today and thought I might share it with you fellow bloggers!

  1. SLEEP IN! (Let’s be real, we all need it!)
  2. Spend that morning till noon reading all those blogs you’ve been meaning to catch up on!
  3. Read a magazine and enjoy that simple quiet time with some music~
  4. Watch some YouTube videos to stay up-to-date with your favourite YouTuber’s!
  5. Read a couple of chapters from that book you’ve been meaning to catch up on
  6. Appreciate the fact that you are still super cozy and comfy in those pajama’s and snuggled up in bed
  7. Make yourself a hot cup of hot cocoa with whip cream or a refreshing vanilla ice cream smoothie because you deserve it
  8. Hide yourself away and dedicate some time to write in your journal or draw in your sketchbook
  9. Look through images for some inspiration and make collages if you are like me; always in need of inspiration!
  10. Waste away some hours in the middle of the day to give yourself a well-needed nap
  11. Watch some movies you’ve been telling yourself to see! (I finally saw Coraline last night!)
  12. Go through your closet and make some brand-new outfit combinations
  13. Then re-vamp your room in big or small ways!~
  14. Create that bucket list you’ve been meaning to tackle on!
  15. Keep away from the interacting with people today and take photo’s or do whatever let’s you have fun!
  16. Reflect on your life; are you doing everything you want to do?

How do you spend your lazy day? =)

If there’s one thing I’ve been doing this summer is BEING OCCUPIED.  Doing something, rather than nothing.

I’ve always been one to say, there should always be at LEAST one highlight in your day, every day. Even if it’s THE most simplest thing ever.

I try to do something every day, whether it’s cleaning, drawing, ect. Some of the things I have done so far ranged from:

  • making a blog! (finally something that uses my computer time effectively!)
  • making a nacho sauce (looked weird but tasted good!)
  • creating an OOTD video spontaneously
  • take photos all day
  • research a specific topic
  • read as much in one day
  • create outfits
  • create personal projects
  • started making up designs to revamp my room
  • clean/Organize my room/workspace

Sure I try to go out with my friends, see family or go out to dinners in between my work schedule, but it’s nice to dedicate some sort of “thing” per day. I feel more accomplished and it feels like I’m dedicating myself to something new every day.

I feel like I’m much better now at motivating myself to get up and do stuff compared to a few years back where I would clean my room at a snails pace because my mother made me.

Thinking back on a lot of my previous summers when I wasn’t working, I really wasted them! I would literally be on the computer ALL DAY.

I relied on my mom when she had her vacation time because she was always motivated to be doing something no matter what! She hated the idea of any of her vacation time being wasted by being in the house, and I love her for that! I can see that she’s really rubbed off on me!

HAPPY SUMMER!

  • Tank Top- Old Navy ($4.00)
  • Cardigan- Gift
  • Denim Shorts- Stitches ($15.00)
  • Belt- Urban Planet ($2.00)

This was my new attempt to show an OOTD, which was actually for yesterday, but I was too tired to upload it all. I’ve always loved seeing how people show off their outfits. This was my travelling style outfit to fare against odd things that you can come across. That and I was okay if these clothes get damaged in any way!

I had an unexpected road trip with my girl Michelle aka Michy. Originally, we were just gunna visit the badlands to see it so I could take photos (she knows I love nature and scenery, so she figured I’d want to see this. She’s pretty awesome for driving me there!). But we actually took time to drive off into several different scenic routes that she knew of.

Too bad the weather kinda sucked as it followed us CONTINUOUSLY.

But minus getting REALLY hungry (we were ready to stop at the farms we passed and eat the animals -_-), finding weird paths (and weird things), becoming semi-lost (oh the joy of having an iPhone that couldn’t find any service for hours), we had a lot of laughs and a lot of fun. This is something that I would do again, heck we always knew we WOULD have a road trip together!

The badlands. It made us think of The Lion King elephant graveyard, a dragon, and the setting of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

This little guy was quite a jumpy one. Good thing we didn’t run into bigger ones.

Darn fenced off areas! We saw a waterfall .. but it was out of our reach, no matter HOW far we walked.

Overall, it was a pretty eventful day~

I believe that documenting has become a huge part of my life permanently. We’ve all done it unconsciously, or maybe just didn’t realize that we were doing it.

  • We were doing it when we took photos of the birthday surprises that were successful.
  • We were doing it when your baby cousin started talking and we were rushing to record it.
  • We were doing it when we were secretly writing in our journals in the middle of the night about how we talked to our crush.
  • We do it when we’re taking a photo of your friends when we’re having the time of our lives.

Why? To remember. To look back on.

Ever since I was given my small point and shoot digital canon camera in the 10th grade for my birthday, as soon as I took a photo, I realized I was holding onto a moment in time. A captured moment. Something I know I could look back on 20, 30 years from now and remember because I had taken this photograph. Sometimes the best times aren’t photographed, and that’s okay. It makes it even more special. Over time, we DO forget these things. We will forget the things that we did, or said, but I think that’s why documenting it in SOME way is so helpful.

Nothing changes when that single photograph is taken, or when those feelings are documented or recorded, no matter what happens after that. You have preserved that single moment forever and it’s something you can always look back on, no matter how you felt.

It’s a great way to sit down and reflect. Reflect on how much has changed. Reflect on what hasn’t.

I’ve always been a bit of a hoarder, but now I definitely am with my photos. I just can’t bring myself to throw away a memory, or delete a file that I still remember. It may not have a single shred of meaning to someone else, but if it does to me, then that’s all that counts. Several years from now, I won’t complain when I have a billion photo’s stored on my backup drive, because it just means that I have a billion memories stored away.

So why not make documenting a trend in your life? There’s nothing stopping you~

Just a follow up thought post from the sunset one =)

Recording 40 minutes worth of thunder and lightning, JUST to ATTEMPT to get possibly less than one nano second’s worth of a simple still, a simple photo.

That is waiting for a moment that may never happen.

That isn’t something we should do to ourselves. Some do it for love, pride, others, themselves, satisfaction, ect. Why? Because we’ll set up expectations, and then they can be shot down in no time. No expectations means no disappointment. But sometimes, just sometimes, it’s worth it.

xoxo Dana

Time sure does fly in the blink of an eye.

This photo made me realize it. I was looking outside, and saw the sunset. Before anything, I was running with my sister out the door, saying “I NEED TO TAKE THIS PHOTO, WE DON’T HAVE MUCH TIME!”

Right after 5 minutes, if not less, the sun was already gone. That moment. Those photos. Gone. It just goes to show you, time does fly by quickly. You need to embrace the moments you have  right now. Make it worthwhile for yourself. Make it memorable.

I sound like I’m preaching, but in a way I kind of am. My photo’s taught me that. Always be aware of your surroundings. You will find a split second of a moment that is beautiful and whether you take that photo or not (or miss the chance, I’m sure we’ve ALL experienced that!), at least embed it in your mind because it happened and simply enjoy it~

Just though I’d share this with you all. Til next time~

xoxo Dana
