It’s already a month into summer! How have you been spending it? Don’t regret a single minute of it and let it go to waste!

LIVE IT! You’ll never get it back~

This morning, I saw a tweet about Taurus’ (I’m not a ridiculous believer in horoscopes, but it’s fun from time to time!)

It said, “You cannot tell a #Taurus to stay at home” (@XSTROLOGY)

I found this amusing. It’s a bit true to me personally, especially for this summer. I refuse to stay in my house and be bored and unproductive for even a single day because it’ll drive me nuts (even when I stay home, I clean or take photos). Don’t be that person who SAYS the things you want to do … but doesn’t end up doing it.

Seeing a friend of mine, SummerGal 101, write a post about her summer motivation (http://lola455567.wordpress.com/2013/05/15/summer-of-motivation/) and making a bucketlist was simply inspiring~

“What do you want to have accomplished by the end of your summer?”

Don’t think of it as a major pressure to do “extraordinary” things, but rather, have a highlight to your day, something that you enjoyed as small as it may be~

So far, I’m enjoying my summer already!

  • Working as much as possible (while looking for another job)
  • Late night days at coffee catching up with old friends for HOURS
  • Lots and lots of photoshoots
  • Going to Centre Island
  • Summer school (Photography 1, woohoo!)
  • Actually watched a hockey game
  • Set off fireworks for Victoria Day
  • Planning movie marathons
  • Planning a road trip to Alberta to visit a friend
  • Booking off vacation time for the first time in my life!
  • Explore the city
  • Create personal projects
  • Finding new places to go to
  • A bit of clubbing and partying here and there~
  • Going to high park to see the Cherry Blossoms
  • Photographing concerts with the old volunteer team
  • Working in a darkroom again for the first time in years
  • Birthday celebrations
  • Thrifting adventures

What will you do this summer?

Make a promise to yourself and keep it~

We FINALLY have some sunshine coming back to us, and all I can think is, “MAXI SKIRTS AND MAXI DRESSES!”

All I’ve been thinking about is a few essential maxi skirts and dresses I can wear this summer! My reasons?

  1. Maxi = better than pants!
  2. It’s less of a hassle and worry if it’s already full length vs. a medium-length skirt
  3. Maxi is a total new level of comfort that still lets you look put together
  4. It has a very feminine look while still being comfy
  5. A maxi dress is a piece that can be utilized in a million ways to make it look like a skirt, top or one piece

What are your thoughts on maxi pieces? (Short or tall, it’s worth a try!)

black

How gorgeous is black and sheer together?

There’s something both classic and timeless about the look of this combination because it can look dressed up or dressed down.

So far, I’ve got a brown maxi skirt (super comfy from sirens for ONLY $10!), a navy blue maxi dress (a more safe colour) with straps and a mint green (I figured colour would be good to try for the summer) from Forever 21.

This is a bit of a fangirl rant. You HAVE been warned! Lots of YouTube links, gif sets and Tumblr links included~

Dreamworks Animation makes the most amazing films I have ever seen in my life. How to Train Your Dragon and Rise of the Guardians are my two top favourites hands down.

I have been watching How to Train Your Dragon over and over again ever since my family bought the DVD. It’s a beautiful film.

One of fitting in, becoming who you are, forbidden friendships, and respect.

The amount of work that’s been put into this film is phenomenal. The smallest details were taken into consideration to truly make the film its own. If you look at each dragons fire, each is different and personalized to match the individual dragon. The expressions of the characters faces truly let the audience connect and fall in love with them.

“And now the spinning. Thanks for nothing, you useless reptile.”

Mwuaha! It’s halloweeeeeen~

Bring on the ghouls, monsters, witches anddddd pumpkins!

Actually, I could do without the scary since I’m a HUGE scaredy cat! However, in the spirit of Halloween  me and some friends got together to do some pumpkin carving!

Meet the crew!

Don’t be deceived!

It was POURING rain when we were picking out our pumpkins, GAH!

I also put together a fun quick 3 minute video of our pumpkin carving if you would like to have a look!

watch in 480p for better quality~

This tiny pumpkin is eating the bigger one! ONOMNOM

Meet Frankenchu; the zombie version of Pikachu!

I’m not a fan of Halloween, but I DO enjoy movies like Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas and fun Halloween songs such as: Terror Time Again, The Hex Girls, (<– From Scooby Doo movies) and This is Halloween~

This post by Wendy from WendysLookbook is not only beautiful, but also inspiring, just as every one of her blog posts are! The reason that this one particularly stood out to me was because of why the location of these photos were taken at, and how they were taken.

Last night, Mystery Man and I went on a date and spotted a fountain on our way home.  With pure excitement, we parked the car and rushed towards the fountain.  MM with his quick hands managed to snap a few pictures while skirting by the water with me.  We felt like little kids enjoying a carefree moment!

After reading this, it made me stop and think.

THIS is why I take photos.

THIS is how I act.

THIS is something that I feel I can heavily relate to.

A while back, I had attended my volunteer teams 5 year anniversary, and whenever I saw someone and the perfect background or saw a moment, I literally either rushed to the scene to capture it or I was squealing and dragging the person to make that photo happen. I have to say, I was EXREMELY happy with myself that night. It also happens to me on a daily basis when shooting, at any day or time, and the feeling of seeing that single photograph come together just makes me speechless everytime. Here’s some of those photo’s that describes what I just wrote about:

One of my favourite photo’s taken that night! The colours were just so perfect, I couldn’t help but squeal after taking this shot.

My team is too comfortable in front of my camera and I abused that to no end that night.

What’s an anniversary without those super tight killer hugs and the screaming of “OMG I HAVEN’T SEEN YOU IN FOREVER!

Captured moments that others won’t notice until they see the pictures later on. Those are the ones you’ll look back on and always smile at.

xoxo Dana

If you read my last post, then you saw my implying of the word “vlogging”. I did promise my friends I would try it once, so I did. I’ll link you guys up with the YouTube link. If you aren’t too busy, go ahead and click if you feel like it~

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9nqnVkpYpA&feature=youtu.be

Locations are very vital to any photo shoot, but you don’t have to go absolutely CRAZY about it. Be simple. Work with what you have and improvise. Why? Because even the best do it. We don’t realize it because we just automatically assume that they went to this AMAZING location (okay … some of them DO, but that’s NOT the point!), but this isn’t always the case!

  • A simple environment can make it easier to coordinate a connection between the model (such as their clothing) and the theme you’re trying to achieve.
  • You have to expect the unexpected. If you do that, then your open mind will lead you to your own secret little location! Just have some faith.
  • Sometimes a plain place is good. This is because it purposely pushes you to be x10 more creative with how you take your shots.
  • Location doesn’t make the photos; YOU make the photo’s happen.

Some of my favourite places to shoot at personally are: fields, train tracks, brick walls, & streets.

What do you look for in a location for a photo shoot?

xoxo Dana
