It’s already a month into summer! How have you been spending it? Don’t regret a single minute of it and let it go to waste!

LIVE IT! You’ll never get it back~

This morning, I saw a tweet about Taurus’ (I’m not a ridiculous believer in horoscopes, but it’s fun from time to time!)

It said, “You cannot tell a #Taurus to stay at home” (@XSTROLOGY)

I found this amusing. It’s a bit true to me personally, especially for this summer. I refuse to stay in my house and be bored and unproductive for even a single day because it’ll drive me nuts (even when I stay home, I clean or take photos). Don’t be that person who SAYS the things you want to do … but doesn’t end up doing it.

Seeing a friend of mine, SummerGal 101, write a post about her summer motivation (http://lola455567.wordpress.com/2013/05/15/summer-of-motivation/) and making a bucketlist was simply inspiring~

“What do you want to have accomplished by the end of your summer?”

Don’t think of it as a major pressure to do “extraordinary” things, but rather, have a highlight to your day, something that you enjoyed as small as it may be~

So far, I’m enjoying my summer already!

  • Working as much as possible (while looking for another job)
  • Late night days at coffee catching up with old friends for HOURS
  • Lots and lots of photoshoots
  • Going to Centre Island
  • Summer school (Photography 1, woohoo!)
  • Actually watched a hockey game
  • Set off fireworks for Victoria Day
  • Planning movie marathons
  • Planning a road trip to Alberta to visit a friend
  • Booking off vacation time for the first time in my life!
  • Explore the city
  • Create personal projects
  • Finding new places to go to
  • A bit of clubbing and partying here and there~
  • Going to high park to see the Cherry Blossoms
  • Photographing concerts with the old volunteer team
  • Working in a darkroom again for the first time in years
  • Birthday celebrations
  • Thrifting adventures

What will you do this summer?

Make a promise to yourself and keep it~

Old Navy launched a special section a while back where some of the clothing was marked with tags that said “Studio Spotlight”. This meant that those pieces were from the line of clothes that the designers created! Below is what the tag looks like:

This piece that I purchased was the Old Navy Women’s one-button blazer. Here’s a link to what the whole blazer looks like:

The creator for this line including the blazer is Shanti Markstrom.

I love buying something that has more meaning than just being some article of clothing! The Studio Spotlight tag could be opened and had a paper in it with information about the creation of the blazer! It was the most adorable thing I had ever seen!

Also, I thought I would include the video about Shanti’s line that she created for you guys, it’s really cool:

I took some pictures of what the paper looked like, HAVE A LOOK!CSC_0965

I’m definitely hoping to stumble across some more Studio Spotlight pieces more often!~

In honor of Gossip Girl having aired it’s season finale, why not a post with their help as my muse?

The Cast of GG on the cover of the New York Magazine, April 2008, named as “The Best Show Ever!”

Now I haven’t watched every season, but all the buzz that goes on about it is enough to learn what the deal of it is, from the drama to the fashion. I still had enough common sense to set aside some time to sit down and watch the last episode for the hell of it.

Sometime’s it takes a show of a lifetime to see changes take place in a character, in terms of their personality, fashion and relationships with friends and family.

From the snobby uniforms in their high school years to scandalous dressy ways of the Upper East side style, it’s easy to see who’s changed in what ways. It made me think about my own transitions with my group of friends and in terms of myself.

Sometime’s appearance really is more important than we think it is. Sometime’s its not. What do you think?

I could be over-analyzing and using a really weird example for something like this, however, sometime’s it’s the hype of the media that makes us just stop and have a moment of self-realization~

Ps. I always did love seeing the way people like The Queen B dressed! It wasn’t something I could have happen in real life, but damn it was always worth watching~

So, as Gossip Girl said in the episode of “Return of the Ring“, “Good morning, Upper East Siders. How do you look today? You know image is everything. But under those perfect clothes and perfect smiles, everyone has their not-so-perfect secrets.”

  • Oxford shirt- Goodwill ($2.50 <–YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT! The original store it’s from is Gap)
  • Black shirt- Jacob ($10.00)
  • Jeans- Stitches ($20.00)

I probably sounded pretty bad with saying the whole “lets’ look smart” title, but I have a reason for that, fear not! I absolutely LOVE this Oxford shirt from Goodwill! Besides the fact that it’s actually from Gap and in PERFECT condition, it really gives an basic look a touch of sophistication! Oxfords not only give a clean look, but they resonate the whole studious student vibe; the preppy look isn’t a bad thing!

I’ve been favoring the preppy school style clothes because of how well-put they are and that they go perfectly with this crispy autumn weather!

What do you think?

Ah! Tomorrow is the first day back to school! I’m still in the crazy Frosh ’12 mode after a week of crazy cheers and awesome events! Oh, university life, you are just too much at times!

No matter what, the first day back always gives me that funny butterflies in the tummy feel, the awkwardness of what to wear, thinking of how everyone’s gunna look and trying NOT to walk around like an idiot finding your class so your aren’t the late one! (The hard part is trying to act like you don’t have to try to look so good or so cool effortlessly)

My way of getting ready is packing that schoolbag and having that schedule ready! Yes, I’m lame, I did make sure to get an agenda because I KNOW I’m gunna need it! I even printscreened my schedule because I don’t have a printer *facepalm*

I realized that I had actually visualized in my head what I’m going to wear … how sad …

And of course, since I have long breaks, I just HAVE to have my music up to date! My current FAV song, Autotune by Jason Chen ft. the ever so awesome Bubz! I always smile and feel content listening to this~

How do you deal with back to school? Best of luck to everyone! =)

Once you start, you cant stop. I’ve never done any crazy complicated DIYs before, I’ve mainly done quick little things that you could think of off the bat of your head. Actually, I don’t know if they can even be CONSIDERED as a DIY because it is either so basic or I just saw it as an easy alternative of how to fix something (most just clothes).

Before, I would NEVER even THINK twice about a pair of scissors in my hands going near ANY of my clothes. However, once you do it that ONE time JUSTTTTTTT to snip away some annoying threads or so, you begin to think.

Hey … I COULD cut off the sleeve since its bothering me so much. It will look like all those other shirts people are wearing now. That would be SO COOL! Ah, its JUST a sleeve, whats it gunna kill me… I’m sure I could just— oh, maybe if I justttttt do this — ohmygosh I HAVE to find that tutorial again on how to do this! Maybe if I look on YouTube and Pinterest … huh, I should do this more often!

Never be afraid to try.

You never know!

Things that are simple can be really fun. It makes you think a bit more creatively. It makes something completely your own. It can also inspire others. So, WHY NOT?

I was just chilling, going through wordpress blogs as usual, when my mom comes in and puts a tiny box in front of me and said,

“This is my way of saying congratulations of passing your first year of university.”

My mom was SO SWEET! She had showed me this 4-ring set in an Avon booklet, and she actually bought them for me!

They are each very different from each other, and I love each one! Stackable rings are so much fun to wear!

I loved how they presented it to. Just the idea of tying the rings with a simple black ribbon and the inside of the tiny black box being fancy instantly gives it a more glamorous feel to it. Presentation is the best way to go from simple to sophisticated~

If there’s one thing about me, it’s that when I pick up an interest, I tend to fully indulge in it!

As you can tell, that would currently be fashion~

I just picked up these books from Chapters, and I am EXCITED!

  • What I Wore” by Jessica Quirk (CAN $20.00)
  • Style Yourself” Foreword by Jane Aldridge (CAN $26.95)
  • Peach-Gold ring- Forever21 ($4.80)
  • Black-gold earrings- Forever 21 ($5.80)

Another reason why I bought these hefty books is because I had been feeling a bit disconnected with reading lately. I have a lot of books that I’ve been telling myself I need to get on reading, but I never seem to do it, which  is sad because I’m quite the bookworm at heart!

Picking up these books, being in the bookstore getting lost amongst on purpose, really reignited that spark I had been looking for!

These books are simply BEAUTIFUL inside, which I saw as a plus because I was instantly inspired by a ton of the photographs! I figured I could pick up some self-teaching fashion studying while also have a book full of photography inspiration right at my hands!

Never be afraid to take up an interest, simply to learn a bit about it for the heck of it! There’s nothing wrong with gaining a bit of fun knowledge!

What’s your current interest?

xoxo Dana
